Hotel Tetora Otsu Kyoto enjoys direct access to JR Otsu Station and 2 train stops from JR Kyoto Station. It offers Western-style rooms with a flat-screen TV and free wired internet access. To me, it was just what I needed, so I could say it was perfect: excellent location if you're traveling by train (literally above the railway tracks, but no specific noise to disturbe my stay), large room (double), very clean, very friendly and thoughtful employees, tasty food for breakfast, lunch and dinner also available, I really felt I was on vacation on the overall. Also has easy access to convenience stores. I do recommend it.

Otsu
The staff was incredibly friendly and the shuttle picked us up in less than five minutes from the time we called them from the station. They had English speaking staff that communicated the customs of staying at a ryokan and let us know of all the amenities available to us. They were able to arrange a really good massage for us in less than a hour of checking in on very short notice. Staff was amazingly friendly and provided excellent service. The kaiseki dinner was delicious as well as breakfast. Everything was so well presented and all facilities were extremely clean. After dinner, I basically had the onsen to myself which was amazingly relaxing. I would stay here again to experience a ryokan.
Nice lake views from hotel room. Parking was free for hotel guests. Good location next to shopping malls, relaxing spring bath, great service.
