Situated 14.70 km from Huaraz main plaza Churup Mountain Lodge offers a garden, a terrace and free WiFi. The lodge offers a à la carte or American breakfast. We stayed at the lodge at the recommendation of two friends and wish we had stayed longer than just four nights. The lodge accommodations, food and services were expertly managed by the ever cheerful and knowledgeable manager, Eva. She attended to our every request from taxi rides, to hiking poles to vegetarian dishes and fresh wood for our fireplace. Location: The lodge is located about 30 minutes up the mountain from Huaraz by taxi. We never went back into town once we arrived. We took the 8 hour bus from Lima which arrived at 6pm. Cruz del Sur was much better than the Movil line. The lodge is surrounded by sheep ranches and pastures with majestic eyes views in all directions. Activities: There are many hikes for all abilities right from the lodge; a perfect way to get acclimated to the altitude. We took a taxi to the trailhead for Laguna Churup (60 soles) and walked back to the lodge afterwards. There are several other longer hikes up the valley as well where you might see condors and other lakes. My husband had a wonderful massage in the yurt while I napped in the hammocks. Yes, there is WiFi. Accommodations: We stayed in a larger room next to the main lodge which was very luxurious (king bed, cozy comforter...). The space was quiet with the sound of water babbling outside. The views of the Cordilleras Negras across the valley out the window were beautiful, especially at sunset. Daily housekeeping was provided and included fresh wood and a fire at 4pm. Meals: We opted for the full meal plan which included breakfast (choice of pancakes, eggs, yogurt or oatmeal), a box lunch (sandwiches, fruit, nuts, cookie) and dinner (vegetarian options were delicious and more than we could eat). All of the meals were locally sourced, home made and delicious. I have already made the chickpea curry at home. The tap water was potable which was a treat too. Of all the places we stayed in our two week trip, this was our favorite.

I loved everything with LDI. Diane and Gina took extremely good care of us guests, and I did not want to leave after my two nights. They helped arranging treks, gave good advice and co-ordinated with the other guests. They also prepared delicious lunch-sandwiches for our treks. The property have a lovely sauna, and an open fire going each evening which I loved. Food is served to all guests at the same time, and I made some really nice friends here. It was a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Also both breakfast and dinner was absolutely amazing, a big plus they served vegetarian food the nights I was there. I loved my stay at LDI and hope to come back in the future.

I love this hostel that I decided to stay longer. I don’t mind at all that it’s a bit farther out of town. Makes for a quieter place. Carla is extremely friendly and hospitable. The food is great and it has all the amenities you need. Perfectly hot shower! Loved it.
