The Passenger Hostel

Sé, Porto

The Passenger Hostel is located in the iconic S. Bento Train Station, within the UNESCO World Heritage area of Porto. It offers private and shared accommodation, a bar and free WiFi access.

Dorm rooms feature a private locker for each guest, a curtain for more privacy, a bedside power socket and an individual light. All rooms have access to shared bathrooms with a shower and a hairdryer. I loved every bit of my staying in Porto and having a homebase in this hostel made it an even more perfect experience. The place is built inside a famous station. I loved the building, they set up an amazing chilling area. Cleanliness was spot on. The rooms still smell of the wood, everything is kept well maintained. In particular I appreciated the big lockers and the bracelet-key to open them and the doors. The kitchen is also huge with a lot of utilities for whoever wants to cook and the staff was simply amazing, they aim to make you feel home and keep you happy. They easily succeed because they're always putting a smile on their face.

Porto Wine Hostel

Porto City Centre , Porto

Located in front of Clérigos Tower, this modern hostel is decorated in the colours of the famous Port wine. There is a communal kitchen and a living room with cable TV and DVD player.

The rooms and spacious dorms at Wine Hostel come with brightly-coloured walls and lots of natural daylight. Each is equipped with individual lamps, a fan and heating. Albeit far away from home, Porto Wine Hostel felt like one from the first sight. I can't recommend this place enough. It's hosts Luis and Marina are simply amazing, to put it mildly. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, while the overall service provided was more than exceptional. I miss it already and am certainly hoping to come back again in foreseeable future. 😊

Hostels. What are they?

Way more than just a cheap place to sleep, hostels are a social way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens or games rooms are great ways to swap tips, tricks and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long, long way since the first youth hostel opened in 1912. From budget 'crash-pads' to five-star 'poshtels', today, hostels are for everybody, so whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll find most hostels are cheaper than a local hotel and far more fun.
