I Lived in MUC for many years then moved away in my time living there and working at BMW i spent many evenings at the OKTOBERFEST this year after a five year abscence i was back with my partner who had also lived in MUC for 15 years this time we went in the afternoon ( he also went in the evening with his company) I would suggest going in the evening and taking a cool group of friends with you we were in Augustine this time but I have spent some really nice evenings in Kaifer and some other tents ....IT depends on what you want to experience at the OF BUT it is ALWAYS WORTH GOING...WE MOVING BACK TO MUC after a 5 and 10 year break WE ARE VERY VERY EXCITED TO BE PART OF THE MUC FAMILY AGAIN:-)
Very long walk from train station to Oktoberfest. Beer very expensive. Bus, team and train good. Julian's/Bed Kelly's bar very good. Beer price reasonable. Sunday karaoke brilliant. I sang Let it be and I want you to want me by Cheap trick. Got huge round of applause, people shaking my hand saying very well sung. Made me proud and happy.
The place of the Oktoberfest. But not only. On other times you can have a great walk partially in shade with wide views. People are exercising here in the everyday life. E.g. inline skating, running and bicycling.
Gets crowded by early afternoon, so get there early and go directly to one of the smaller, less popular tents to check the lines for entry. The larger more known tents, such as Hofbrauhaus, Lowenbrau, usually have some open tables until early evening ... then they have people who have reserved those tables and you must leave. But well worth going into all of them to check them out.
GO!!! It is the world’s largest fair! If you don’t like fairs ... you won’t like it here! Don’t bring others down ~ just don’t go & be a party pooper!!! If you do enjoy fairs ... it’ll be the best time of your life! The mist joyous occasion I’ve experienced! Everyone is each other’s friend! Love the German hospitality! Wear the Trachten! Again ~ if you’re going ... emerge yourself! It’s part of the fun! See you next year, Munich!
So much fun there, do not miss it. But do not forget to leave all big bags at home as the securities will not allow to carry pass through the entrance. Anyway if you got some bag with you, you can leave it at baggage service (4 euro /piece).
