This hotel offers modern rooms with free Wi-Fi in the pedestrianised historic quarter of Berlin-Spandau. It lies 20 metres from Spandau Altstadt underground and 100 metres from the River Spree. Big rooms. Close to airport (about a 20 euro cab ride) with lots of restaurants close by.
The stadium & bell tower areas are impressive with interesting exhibits throughout. The swim stadium however was disappointing. Though the original elements are still in place, some of the areas are being repaired. The swim stadium is a functioning training pool. While most of the lifeguards & staff are very nice there are some employees who do not want people to just pay to view the space. We were very respectful & sat quietly while swimmers were training but we were met by a very angry/aggressive lifeguard that rushed us out of the space because we were not speaking German. Bizarre experience for sure.
Take cash if you're going to a gig here, they don't take cards at the food/drinks stands! This is a lesson we learned the hard way in 24 degree heat ending up almost dehydrated before we could find a single cash machine!!
This is a very interesting stadium historically, as it has an exhibition about how the National Socialists abused sport for their propaganda. It is a fantastic concert venue and sports ground. Public transport is easy.
We could only walk round the outside although you do get an impression of what it was like in the 30’s from the stadium building and the station and walk way to the stadium. The interior of the stadium has been redeveloped to adapt to modern needs to nothing of the old Nazi interior remains
If your English please book online for your tour the reception staff don’t advise you if your tour time and we paid 16 Euro for nothing and ended up having to wait an hour for a tour and we didn’t have time to do the tour
We were not allowed to buy a regular ticket but only with a guide to see how unnecessarily expensive the VIP sector could be. The whole tour and place is overpriced. The only advantage of the stadium is its historical military importance.
