If you are an university student you need to be sure that you have a card with the expiring date, a letter from your uni that proves it or the international student card, that costs 15 euros. No other sensible way of proving that you are a student are accepted.
At this time the Pergamon Altar cannot be visited, as that part of the museum is being rebuilt. But the other two parts of the museum, the collection from the ancient Middle East and the Islamic collection, are still open and have some fabulous things. The Ishtar Gate from Bablyon is staggering.
A great museum. Be warned that the pergamon altar will be under renovation for another 5 years but the rest of the collection is so good that you won't be disappointed you didn't get to see the altar.
Part of the 'museums island'. Some of it was 'under refitting' but what we saw was really good. If you want to know what the entrance in the original city of Babylon or a Roman gateway into a market place was like then this is a must
The gate of Babylon and the gate to the market of Miletus are two of the most important things to see and they are pretty impressive. However I must say I was extremely disappointed by the fact that many pieces of the museum's collection had description and explanation only in German. Pretty unacceptable in 2017.
Pergamon museum is fantastic especially for those who are interested in Persian, Assyrian and Greek civilisations
Make sure you get to que up in front of the pergamon Museum at around 9.00, the ticket boooth opens at 9.30 and the Museum itself at 10.00.
If you are going to see some of the museum's in and around Berlin I would definitely recommend the museum pass. It gives 3 consecutive days access to all museums in the program (you get a book telling you which ones with the card). You only need to go in to three museums and you have pretty much broke even on the cost of the card. It also cuts out most of the ticket queues as you just show the card to get in. You do still need a timed ticket for some museums though so read the signs as you will be refused entry if you don't have one, they are free but where required you must have one. If you are going to the Pergamon museum I would recommend getting there before it's scheduled opening time. I got there half an hour before the advertised time and was let in. A couple of hours or so later and there was a 2hr queue just to get tickets. It is also stupidly busy on weekends as buses ship a lot of tourists in from the surrounding cities and countries so I would avoid these days if possible.
The Pergamon Museum will close for renovations in Autumn, so visitors should check before going.
