Offering a restaurant and free WiFi throughout, Hotel Villa La Tour is located in Nice’s Old Town. We chose the hotel as a step back in time to the Nice we remembered - and it was perfect!
One of our favourite places.! The views are fantastic which ever way you look.... Especially North to the Mountains which could be snow capped.... It is a steep walk in places - there are benches to take a rest or a rail to lean on... You could take the tourist train but you would miss some of the views of Nice. With Tram Route 2 under construction the North access (Port side) to Castle Hill is closed but still accessible from Old Town / Place Garibaldi.
Long climb up the approximate 16 flights of stairs but worth the walk. The view of the promenade, beach, town and mountains was incredible. In addition to the view, there is a wonderful park at the top and a playground. On the way up or down you'll see a waterfall and a small groto. If climbing stairs isn't your idea of fun, there is a free elevator that takes you to the top! But do consider walking down to experience the many levels of surprises you will encounter.
Worth the trek up to the top where there is a park with children's play area and a cafe, also some lovely architecture. We have been to nice many times and it has usually been too hot in summer, when we went in May it was the perfect temperature to walk the steps. You can drive up the other side though if you have a car.
The best way to see this is by foot. Lots of steps but many interesting vistas and resting places. Our group of 4 60+ year old's managed it easily. We also ascended the hill by train and this was less physically taxing and very informative. There is also a lift>
