Myself and my husband spent a whole day in there and definitely didn't see everything. The architecture of the building is stunning too. There were not too many people so it was easy to get around and view the exhibits.
There is something for everyone here! Crossing all life since the dawn of time. Don't get stuck in the tourist crowds by getting their extra early. Otherwise you'll spend ages shuffling in queues at top exhibit sections
Enjoyed the exhibitions, but it was very busy. Was not impressed with the cost of leaving bags in the cloakroom. You pay on weight so even if it is a neat cabin bag, it can still cost £5 to leave-with two bags we were asked for £10. As a result, we carried our bags round for the full visit which spoilt it.
Amazing that it was free, could have spent a whole day wandering around here. Food in the cafe was a little pricey but delicious and we didnt mind spending a bit extra here as it was only a donation to get in.
Tried to go on a Sunday - the queue was so long we went to another museum. When we came back mid-week we still needed to queue but not for long. It became busier during our visit - a tip is to get their early or aftre the schools have gone later in the day.
If you have children I highly recommend the 'Dinosnores'. Myself and then 10 year old son had the best time. I've visited the museum during the day when it is fairy busy but to see the museum at night and enjoy the exhibits up close, and have an interactive evening with the staff was wonderful. For sleeping I recommend taking own duvet and pillows to rest on top of and a sleep bag to sleep in (all packed in suitcase), the museum provide mats but they are fairly thin, we doubled up. If a light sleeper take ear protectors because people are up in the night to the loo. Waking in the great hall with the dinosaurs is pretty special. We took our own snacks from M&S, a basic breakfast is provided; muffin, juice, tea and coffee is available. Rate the experience 9/10.
Location is great, easy walking distance to Kensington high street. We stayed here to visit the natural history museum, it’s a bit of a walk but a nice walk.
The location was brilliant as the natural history museum was right across the road.
In England there's a tradition about museums as Alsace of culture, there are lots of activities devoted to kids. It is a place of interaction between objects and visitors and not only places to watch. If you have kids I suggest the natural history museum that is free as all the other Victorian museum, Tate, British, Albert....
Museums are must see , they are huge and i recommend just having 2,3 days for visiting them. For example , Natural History Museum is huge and it is divided in 4 sections. One section took me around 1,2 hours to cover (with reading the provided info and watching the presentations)
Excellent museums and art galleries with very well executed displays and events , for instance the natural history museum has lots of interactive exhibits
Exhibition of mammoths at the Natural History Museum and the Wedding Dresses at the V&A.
I have seen a dinosaurus at Natural History Museum and Andy Warholl at Modern Tate Galery, and 10-15 excellent pubs (Guiness beer)
National Gallery has nice cafe and afternoon tea at a reasonable price. Sundays at the Natural History Museum are mobbed with people with their children. Do not go on that day if you don't like crowds.
