Quite a climb but worth it, in summer can get very hot and sunny as the is minimal shade so do not forget to wear a hat also consider going in the morning or late afternoon as it gets cooler with a good breeze.
Book early and get there very early....avoid the extreme crowds if going during the peak season (July.Aug). Bring your own water and food) as prices are "very expensive". Also wear appropriate shows, as it can get very slippery.
Kids up to 18 (!) Years have Free entrance. Show the ID at the ticket office and you get their tickets. Adults are 20 euro at the ticket office. The ticket machines dont have the option for kids up to 18 years- at least I did not find it.
Although the Acropolis is the main attraction, there are actually many other ancient sites/ruins included in the ticket for the Acropolis and history buffs could easily spend 4-5 hours up there, I did!
go very early. the line is insane. be aware that the stone while climbing is quite slippery. we saw a number of people fall. asie from the long line to purchase tickets it is best to be there early because in the summer months it is very very hot up there
The Acropolis is a beautiful centerpiece of Athens. We were lucky enough to be in the city on one of their free Sundays (which is once a month from November to March). Not only is the Acropolis free, but several others of the must-see ruins like the Agora. If you are not there on a free Sunday and you want to see several of the ruins it is worth while purchasing the combinatioin ticket to make things faster. We recommend getting there really early just as it's opening. It helps you to avoid the rush and queues. Take as many photos as you can from all angles as it is beautiful. Make sure as you do so you are still respectful as it is a historic monument, and if you don't want to get into trouble with some of the more militant guards.
Lovely hotel with friendly and attentive staff. They give attention to detail and the needs of the guests. The room was furnished in a modern, minimalistic style and the newly renovated bathroom, with the rain shower head, made my stay extra comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the coco mat pillows guaranteed a good night's rest after a busy day. The Acropolis, National Gardens, Syntagma Square and Plaka neighborhood is within walking distance from the hotel. The Niche hotel is an excellent choice to stay when visiting Athens.
Absolutely one of the best apartments I have stayed in so far. Great location. All services within walking distance. Excellent shopping opportunities. Great restaurants in the area. Acropolis, Acropolis museum and other sights perfectly accessible on foot. Really lovely accommodation like a 5 star hotel. Perfect soundproofing. Great king size bed. Perfectly and completely equipped kitchen. Wonderful bathroom with very spacious shower. All toiletries provided. Excellent support and communication from the owner.
We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment in the annex building located across the street from the hotel. Apartment is very spacious and comes with all the amenities for an apartment. We arrived very late so having the 24-hour reception with a friendly welcome was appreciated. The hotel arranged our transportation to and from the airport, first class transport! Hotel is located within 5 minutes to restaurants and a lovely view of the Acropolis. We also walked to all the markets and Plaka, about 20 minutes.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the best I had in Athens - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, yoghurt, honey, fruit juices, coffee, breads, cereals. All very tasty! The rooftop bar was also great, with staff taking a photo for us with the Acropolis in view behind us. We went there many times during our stay taking in the great views. This was my favourite hotel in Greece and I'd recommend it to anyone - even just for the breakfast alone!
Very nice place in a vibrant party area. The stuff is extremely helpful and nice. Rooftop hot tub is included in the price so I enjoyed a warm tub with Acropolis view. The hotel stuff welcomed me with a coffee and also brought wine and fruits as a birthday congratulations to my room. I also got a bottle of olive oil at my checkout. The spa area is small but cozy, leg massage was the best way to relax after a long walk around Athens.
The hotel is located in a lovely neighbourhood close to Acropolis and Syntagma square, where the airport bus stops. We only stayed in the hotel for one night, but I can say it was a pleasant stay. From smooth late check-in to a good breakfast, everything went well. They even have a special room where you can leave your luggage after checkout at no cost. We'll definitely stay at this hotel during our next visit to Athens.
The hotel lobby is grand and beautiful. The room was spacious enough for what we needed. The location was good - near the Omonia metro station and close to the centre of Athens. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Worth booking a stay just for the rooftop views of the Acropolis. Every Athens hotel seems to advertise their "rooftop view", but looking around, none had the view this one did.
The view of Acropolis was phenomenal, exactly like in photographs, and the rooftop terrace was huge. We previously stayed one night in a hotel with Acropolis view and it couldn't compare to this apartment. The view at night was magical, you could look straight at it from the bed. The apartment was very modern and nicely designed, the host was also very helpful and friendly :)
The location is just perfect if you want to explore Athens. Everything is very near, reachable by foot. The apartment itself has everything you need. The terrace has a view on Acropolis which was a big surprise for us. :)) I totally recommend it.
This hotel was closed and we were transferred to the 5 star Wyndham Grand Athens. Cozy and clean room. Courteous staff. Splendid breakfast on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Acropolis. The hotel is next to the metro.
Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.
The new Acropolis museum is a must see and a visit to the museum of Archaeology is a close second.
If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!
Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
The museums were free on certain days. The opening days and time of the new Acropolis museum was incorrect.
The new Acropolis museum was truly impressive with modern displays & interpretations.
