Book early and get there very early....avoid the extreme crowds if going during the peak season (July.Aug). Bring your own water and food) as prices are "very expensive". Also wear appropriate shows, as it can get very slippery.
Kids up to 18 (!) Years have Free entrance. Show the ID at the ticket office and you get their tickets. Adults are 20 euro at the ticket office. The ticket machines dont have the option for kids up to 18 years- at least I did not find it.
Although the Acropolis is the main attraction, there are actually many other ancient sites/ruins included in the ticket for the Acropolis and history buffs could easily spend 4-5 hours up there, I did!
go very early. the line is insane. be aware that the stone while climbing is quite slippery. we saw a number of people fall. asie from the long line to purchase tickets it is best to be there early because in the summer months it is very very hot up there
The Acropolis is a beautiful centerpiece of Athens. We were lucky enough to be in the city on one of their free Sundays (which is once a month from November to March). Not only is the Acropolis free, but several others of the must-see ruins like the Agora. If you are not there on a free Sunday and you want to see several of the ruins it is worth while purchasing the combinatioin ticket to make things faster. We recommend getting there really early just as it's opening. It helps you to avoid the rush and queues. Take as many photos as you can from all angles as it is beautiful. Make sure as you do so you are still respectful as it is a historic monument, and if you don't want to get into trouble with some of the more militant guards.
Disappointing. Difficult to get a good photograph due to the amount of scaffold and heavy machinery on site. Not enough information around to read about the buildings you're looking at. Overpriced at €20 entrance fee.
Excellent location, literally 200m from Acropolis metro, right next to Syntagma square in the heart of Athens. Super comfortable bed, sparkling clean bathroom, small but very convenient kitchenette, fast wifi and an amazing view from the balcony. Pricewise was extremely decent for its location and facilities. No noise inside the apartment, it was very good for working from home. The building is safe and the doors are secured with pin and badge to open. Perfect for a solo female traveller! Zoe was a lovely host. Thank you for everything!
Great location, only 6-7 minutes walk away from Acropolis area, walking distance to Thissio, Monastiraki and main points of interest in Athens. Few minutes away from a supermarket. Overall a safe area and it wasn't noisy. Very easy check in, instructions on how to find the keys and the actual apartment were provided. Easy and prompt communication with the host. Apartment suitable either for short or long term stays. Stayed for the whole month and it was a really good value for money.
This is the second time we have stayed in the same hotel - and in the same apartment. 2-bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor. Everything remains as it was last year, except for the disinfection stations and the way it is served at breakfast. All the staff are very kind and happy to help, and the feeling of the place is homely and pleasant. The location is perfect, surrounded by restaurants and a short drive or long walk, from the Acropolis. Even if a little noisy - so it is in all of Athens.
This is a perfect 10, highly recommended. Bright, spacious, squeaky-clean apartment. Located in a quiet neighborhood very close to Plaka, Acropolis and 5 min walk from the Metro Fix station. The host had everything that is needed for a pleasant stay (bottled water, wine, homemade jams, crackers, cheese, bread, and all necessities). There is a cosy roof top with easy access with a table where you relax and enjoy stunning views to Acropolis and other Athens landmarks.
The location is perfect! It is across Electra Hotel. It is walking distance to all the major sites in Athens especially the Acropolis. The host was very thoughtful and kept in touch with us throughout our stay. The apartment is also spacious and has pretty much everything you need. It is close to Plaka walking street which means also close to the restaurants. Loved our stay and would love to stay here again.
Brand new hotel/hostel. The staff was very kind and helpful, I was in Athens for a week so they recommended me plenty of sights and nice restaurants to eat at. Upon my arrival, I was upgraded to a suite, which was a very good surprise :) . The room was very spacious and confortable with an amazing view of the Acropolis from the balcony. I will stay there again If I come back to Athens one day :)
Amazing location! A short walk from the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which we could just about see from the balcony. Nice big rooms and a well stocked kitchen! This is an apartment, not a hotel, which was great to have on a long trip. There are no staff to check you in just some very detailed easy to follow instruction on how to access your room.
The location of the apartment is great. A lovely neighbourhood of athens with easy reach to some great restaurants and a nice comfortable walk to the sites including the acropolis and other places to visit in the city. Would stay in this neighbourhood and apartments again. Great value for money.
It is a beautiful hotel with very modern rooms as it is recently renovated! The location is also perfect, very close to Acropolis and other "must see" places in Athens. The customer service was very friendly and polite. I stronly suggest this hotel!
Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.
The new Acropolis museum is a must see and a visit to the museum of Archaeology is a close second.
If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!
Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
The museums were free on certain days. The opening days and time of the new Acropolis museum was incorrect.
The new Acropolis museum was truly impressive with modern displays & interpretations.
