Although the Acropolis is the main attraction, there are actually many other ancient sites/ruins included in the ticket for the Acropolis and history buffs could easily spend 4-5 hours up there, I did!
The Acropolis is a beautiful centerpiece of Athens. We were lucky enough to be in the city on one of their free Sundays (which is once a month from November to March). Not only is the Acropolis free, but several others of the must-see ruins like the Agora. If you are not there on a free Sunday and you want to see several of the ruins it is worth while purchasing the combinatioin ticket to make things faster. We recommend getting there really early just as it's opening. It helps you to avoid the rush and queues. Take as many photos as you can from all angles as it is beautiful. Make sure as you do so you are still respectful as it is a historic monument, and if you don't want to get into trouble with some of the more militant guards.
Disappointing. Difficult to get a good photograph due to the amount of scaffold and heavy machinery on site. Not enough information around to read about the buildings you're looking at. Overpriced at €20 entrance fee.
Walk up from South West entrance near Acropolis Metro by Theatre of Dionysus and return via north slope(do not divert to early church on north slope but continue around to cave church and back down to Acropolis museum. If you want to know what you are looking at find out beforehand as there is not a wealth of information up there.
Day and night busy and beautiful! There are concerts inside Acropolis.!If you visit the Acropolis go early to get tickets or do online! After 9:00 am the line is really long!Restaurants great around here!Street vendors ,musicians makes more interesting to walk around the Acropolis. Do you like folklore dance ?It is walking distance the Filopoppou Hill and see the Dora Stratou Traditional Theater performance in August.
wear good walking shoes its not paved and its rocky and dusty. Remember to bring water with you as no place to purchase once inside, there are 2 places to get water but in August its hot and the water was wet but not really refreshing
We chose this property for location - from Metro, and easy walking into the centre - plus nice features of an internal garden and roof terrace. We were very pleased with the apartment, high ceilings, quiet, plenty of space, recent and nicely renovated, washing machine, BBC news. We visited end of February, so off peak and good value. The walk to the centre, sights, Acropolis, Museums was easy and interesting, passing many eating places. Overall we had a really good time in Athens. Greece was a very positive experience.
I had booked a dorm room but changed my mind when I viewed a private room which exceeded my expectations being very stylishly designed with its own balcony. The continental breakfast with fruits was taken in a pleasant kitchen area with all facilities for guests preparing their own snacks or meals. Overall a very nice hostel/hotel in a central historical area of Athens. The tariff was reasonable for all types or rooms. Fantastic view of the Acropolis from the roof top garden.
Property is in at the hart of Athens center, Plaka, and very close to Acropolis. Shops, tavernas, Acropolis, antique museums are on a walking distances from a hotel. Good connection to other parts of the town. Port (Pireas) is on a 10 min by car from a property, easing reaching islands in the neighborhood. Very nice and friendly stuff ready to help you and assist you in any needs. Reach breakfast with a home made stuff.
Brand new hotel/hostel. The staff was very kind and helpful, I was in Athens for a week so they recommended me plenty of sights and nice restaurants to eat at. Upon my arrival, I was upgraded to a suite, which was a very good surprise :) . The room was very spacious and confortable with an amazing view of the Acropolis from the balcony. I will stay there again If I come back to Athens one day :)
The hotel is clean and comfortable. I had an outside room with a view towards Lycabettus Hill to the right and towards the city centre to the left. The location suited me well as it was just 25 minutes walk to the Acropolis area. The restaurant has an excellent view of the city of Athens and the roof-top pool and bar area is a great feature. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Amazing location! A short walk from the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which we could just about see from the balcony. Nice big rooms and a well stocked kitchen! This is an apartment, not a hotel, which was great to have on a long trip. There are no staff to check you in just some very detailed easy to follow instruction on how to access your room.
Gaia Hotel is located in walking distance to main touristic attraction including Acropolis. We had really pleasant stay. Alexander was brilliant concierge always helpful all his advices he gave us was precious. Thanks Alexander for everything :) Our next time in Athens will be for sure in Gaia Athens.
Cosy hotel on an excellent location in the heart of Athens. Just a few minutes walk from the closest metro station. Many good bars and restaurants are nearby, Acropolis is within walking distance. Staff is exceptioanlly friendly and rooms were large, modern and comfortable.
I liked the shower, it was like a hotel. The cleaning ladies were lovely and the apartment was in immaculate condition. I liked the spaciousness of the bedroom and the kitchen and the location was walking distance to Acropolis!
Very good service - kind and professional! A very nice boutique-hotel in the heart of Athens. If you like to go out it is absolutely perfect. View on the Acropolis.
Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.
The new Acropolis museum is a must see and a visit to the museum of Archaeology is a close second.
If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!
Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
The museums were free on certain days. The opening days and time of the new Acropolis museum was incorrect.
The new Acropolis museum was truly impressive with modern displays & interpretations.
