The food here is very good and fresh. If you like bargaining...this is the place to be around. First take a walk around and checkout the restaurants before settling in on one. People are very friendly.... and visitors should also show respect o the locals. This place is magic with so much going on..... so take plenty of pictures.
It was neat to experience, but I didn't find any trinkets I couldn't live without. Also, be very careful about your wallet, purse, backpack, etc. There are pickpockets (who travel in gangs. One to distract you and the others to steal from you...) and pushy street vendors galore.
Includes two churches and full of atmosphere:beats Syntagma Square hands down.I wouldn't eat too close to here if I were you. There is a great restaurant behind the little Mitropolis Cathedral not far away with music a great view of this lovely little church(ignore the didactic behemoth behind it and the food and service were excellent.
Interesting and hectic food and shopping. The lanes leading up to the Old Plaka are fabulous for shopping... shoes bags and art. Eat further into the lanes as the restaurants are better and food jucer
Some excellent street entertainers appear of an evening, but too many hustlers abound there by day. Much too busy for visitors to feel at ease. Convenience of metro station being right there is biggest plus.
We spent a lot of time here, easy place to meet with lots of hustle and bustle. The middle cafe of the ones opposite the metro has a great propieter who always catches your eye when needed, so prompt and attentive staff.
The staff were exceptional! Gave really good recommendations and used whatsapp for communication whenever we needed them. The rooms are beautiful, comfy beds, nice lounge space for relaxing and space for working/blogging if needed. I especially loved the art/prints in our room and throughout the hotel. Location is great too, less than 5mins to Monastiraki Square 'the heart of Athens', for flea market shopping, greek food and metro station. Also in close proximity to plenty of roof top bars with views of the acropolis.
Very friendly hotel in excellent and central location - very close to Monastiraki square and metro lines to the airport and to Piräus. Rooms have a good size and are generally quiet in spite of lying next to a busy street. Clean, excellent price-value-ratio, friendly staff and good breakfast - what more would you want in the center of Athens. They also provided print-outs of my ferry tickets to me, because my ferry was leaving early next morning.
The location is excellent, very close proximity to all the historical monuments and just steps away from Monastiraki square. There are many restaurants and bars in the area, making it a perfect base for exploring downtown Athens. My room was excellent. The staff was very polite and attentive, the breakfast selection was also great. Highly recommend this hotel as it can definitely be rated as a 4-5 star hotel.
This hotel has a perfect location between Syntagma and Monastiraki Squares - both can be reached within a 5 minutes walk. We had a room on the 3rd floor with great view on Acropolis. There are many places to have something to eat or drink around. The place is in general very quiet as for Athens, the only thing that may be bothersome is the church and its bell ringing every half an hour, even at night.
The location is very good, just a block from Monastiraki square. Full of shops, restaurants, and everything. We walked through Plaka and went to the main attractions. It was great for our short stop in Athens. It is easy to take public transport from the port of Pireus and also easy to go to the airport since the metro station is close to the hotel.
Really good location of hostel very close to Monastiraki square. Stuff is kind and helpfull. Room was not so big, not so small. Has got its own bathroom, that was great. There is beautiful spacy rooftop with bar and with GEORGEOUS VIEW of Acropola hill and Parthenon (wow). In the lobby there is a lockey room where you can leave your luggage.
Fantastic apartment in a great location - looks out over Monastiraki Square so very easy walking distance to fantastic bars and restaurants. Apartment is newly renovated and very comfortable. Wifi was good, lovely treats left in the apartment. Thank you very much!
The hotel is near to the Monastiraki square. The area can be seen negatively. After a short walk, you can understand that the full city is made of wonderful buildings next to destroyed one. It’s typical of Athens.
The location of the hotel is stellar and the view from the rooms facing Monastiraki square is amazing, The personnel is nice, as is the case everywhere around Greece.
Between Monastiraki and Thyssio there's a little street full of restaurants and bar where the food is simply AMAZING. Try tzatziki (cucumber and garlic in a yougurt sauce) or Souvlaki or Mussaka.! :)
Shopping in May has the advantage of end of winter sales. I saw ankle boots go from 45E to 25E. Prices are better in Athens than say, Thessaloniki, and Monastiraki is where you'll find sales on shoes, clothes and linen.
