Check the cruise ship schedule, do not go walk the walls if there are 3+ ships at port. We went when there were 2 ships at about 5pm, about 1.5 hours before they close. Sure, still lots of people, but not at all packed or uncomfortable. Also the best lighting around this this time for views and pics.
I would recommend doing the Walls first thing in the day as the crowds build up quickly and it also allows you to decide which of the sights you want to explore in more depth. For Game of Thrones fans, we did a self-guided tour as we were travelling with kids and didn't want to be bound to a schedule. There is enough information available on the internet if you want to do it on your own (and save a few bucks), although a guided tour would be more entertaining.
If you visit Dubrovnik, you definitely have to go there! The view from the walls is amazing and it's a lot of fun. There are also places along the wall where you can stop for a cold beverage or something to eat :)
The walls are great and the old town inside the walls really worth exploring. Easy to get lost - fun! - and full of good restaurants, shopping, etc. TOP TIP is to find the two bars on the cliffs located OUTSIDE the walls, facing the open sea with youngsters jumping off the cliffs. Entry through the wall is only a small door wide and well hidden unless you look for them! Some locals live there, so you can ask about the bars.
Fascinating history and amazing views. Lots of up and down stairs. A few places to buy a cold/hot drink as you go, but most are along the water side. No shade, so it can get pretty hot. Bring water and take your time. Also a couple of local artisans selling handicrafts - worth a look - prices can be better direct to the artist vs buying in a shop in the Old town.
Start at the entrance near the East gate and go early. Views over the town are great but there is no shade and it can get very hot. Buy a 1 day Dubrovnik Pass online - makes entry to the other attractions quicker, cheaper and easier.
Old Town, Dubrovnik
Really good apartment. Everything is new, very nice and modern. I what is for me important, it is very clean. Location is perfect, in center of old town, inside the walls of Dubrovnik. Just 20m from church Saint Vlaho. I spent a weekend in Dubrovnik with my wife and we really enjoyed the old spirit of Dubrovnik and swimming on the nearby beaches in the crystal clear sea. Definitely, apartment to recommend.
Ploce, Dubrovnik
The apartment is just opposite the city walls of Dubrovnik. From the terrace it offers a beautiful view of the fortress and part of the marina. Everything is so convenient, the super markets, restaurants, money exchange and the cable car. It's a home away from home and Mr. Rimac the owner make sure his guests can cook if they wanted to.
Dubrovnik
I loved the fact that the apartment was outside the walls of Dubrovnik. It allowed us to get away from the crowds at night and get some peace and quiet. There were a lot of steps up to the apartment but we were fine with that as we are used to walking a lot.
