Please consider taking a taxi up and down the hill. In August the queues are ridiculously long. We're not exaggerating when we stood in the queue for 30 mins on the way up and 1.5 hours on the way down. If you do insist on using the cable car in August factor in queuing time.
Before 31st Aug 2017 go up before 17:00 and come back after 20:00 and two adults are 200 Kuna to see the sun set or get the number 17 bus from Pile gate (its a small coach with no number on it!) and walk 20-30 mins up hill from the last village it stops at. Last bus back was 22:00 from the village. Could link with off-road buggy safari (located just outside Cable Car but book before to make sure you get the slot you want). Also could do a romantic meal for two at the Cable car restaurant and ask for a table with stunning views over the city or go to Konoba Dubrava restaurant in the nearest village (20 mins walk - book in advance). We did the latter with our son and we all enjoyed the meal there and got the 17 bus back down to town at 22:00. Take a jumper to the top if going to see the sunset or sit in the restaurant after dark as it gets quite cool.
Amazing views! Alpine meadows, war history. Terraced Panorama restaurant or inside restaurant are your only options for food/drink, so if not in your budget, shop at a local market before heading up. Free washrooms at the top!
The ride lasts just a couple of minutes and costs €16 return, so €64 euros for a family of 4 with kids over 12. Alternatively, take a taxi for 4 to the same place for just €20 return - and spend the saving on several cocktails!
