The harbour is hardly the best welcome to Gili T, and it's where touts will try to rip you off the most. It's best to try get to wherever you're planning on staying first, then arrange cycles/ trips etc.
You have to be really patient with the locals trying to offer you everything and anything while you are sitting there waiting for your boat to arrive. You are bound to sit in one place and the sellers try to convince you to buy. I think when one sees you say No, thank you and you don't keep an eye contact with them, they will leave you be.
personally I wouldn't bother again. It took us forever to get there. very dissapointed, in this Island and the treatment of some of the animals, particularly the only transport was donke's/pony's and some were not well cared for, and broke my heart. We left early..
In terms of facilities, I did not see a functioning jetty or pontoon structure that would improve the access for guests getting on and off the boats. The facilities provided for guests awaiting boats transport, left a lot to be desired in terms of cleaniliness, comfort and toileting facilities, considering the number of guests using the facility and the money they spend on the island. It is too easy to say that this is Indonesia and that is the way it is but it only makes good commercial sense that by having descent well maintained facilities you will improve your guest recommendatios and therefore turnover.
the whole system on that filthy island is corrupt. let the white people in to collect plastic bottles to protect the environment and . the locals burn it on a high pile. got my drift? corrupt AF THIS place it. 10 mins on a horse and cart will set u back $15 aud. and if you are travelling with someone else, your luggage won't fit so your ten minute ride is now $30. the place is lawless and full of scammers. don't do it.
Leaving and arriving the island is super stressful!! Crowds of tourists swarm the beach trying to clamber onto their boat. Be prepared to push and hustle your way onto your boat and for it to be late.
