Do remember to cover your shoulders when entering the cathedral. I was wearing a vest top and was told I could not go in. A shame, as the photos my husband took were revealed it's well worth going in to see the elaborate interior.
Well worth seeing. If you are not paying for a ticket to climb the Pisa Leaning Tower (which also gives you access to the Cathedral as well). You can still get a free ticket to enter the Cathedral from the museum opposite the Cathedral. The tickets are timed for entry to Cathedral, so if you have limited time, make sure you get a ticket as soon as you arrive to ensure you get an entry time suitable for you.
At train station buy bus ticket inside 1.2 Euro, each way. Bus in front or station 50 m called LR, Lam Rosa. Ask driver to announce "Duomo" - bus stops by old gate and souvenir tents.... return bus across the street and L meters 50. See the green white CPT ticket box if you did not buy return. Bus will pick u up there.
Stop shuffling behind tour groups, take a pew next to Pisano's pulpit and spend time for a long look at it and the interior of the cathedral. The ceiling of dome and above the choir are being restored, but still plenty to admire. Try to go early or late in day (long opening hours).
Somewhat bizarre interior as far as cathedrals go, but absolutely fascinating! Entry is free (unlike the Basillica and the Tower) but you have to get a timed pass from the ticket office across the square.
