Worth all the hassle of getting a ticket. Can’t wait to compare with the (almost) contemporary copy at the Royal Academy in London which has all the feet, that were cut out at a later date in order to put in a door! Apparently, the position of Jesus’ feet in the fresco were a portent of his crucifixion. Such a shame Leonardo did not observe the proper techniques for painting a fresco, leading to its poor condition, unlike his near contemporary who painted the opposite wall. Fascinating display showing how the Milanesi protected it from bombing raids in the World War II.
It was incredible. One tip for people visiting... is that you CAN take your cameras in with you. This was not clear, so we ended up leaving ours in our locker. Turns out that you can take pictures, only if you do not use the flash light.
Book well in advance! Only guided tours at set times are allowed through to see the The Last Supper. It was booked out two weeks ahead of time when I arrived and was unaware you couldn't get tickets on the day. I was lucky enough to find a tour guide on the way in with their group who had a spare ticket so I bought it off her and tagged along with her group. No one else seemed to be that lucky and I had to leave my friend behind.
I'm sure this has already been mentioned but book early online - tickets do become available as people/parties cancel so keep looking at the ticket website. Collect your tickets from the office at least 15 mins before your visit timing (you'll get exactly 15 mins to see The Last Supper) and then enter through the Cenacolo glass doors (not through the Santa Maria church). They do allow cameras but, as you'd expect, no flash. Only 25-30 people are allowed into the viewing area at one time so there's plenty of space to see the wonder of LdV's masterpiece. This was on my 'bucket-list' and I wasn't disappointed....
This was the main reason for our visit to Milan and it exceeded our expectations. Definitely worth booking a guided tour with an English speaking guide and the 15 minutes allocated to the small group to spend looking at the painting doesn't feel at all rushed.
I am glad i have finally seen it but also it has turned into a rip off money making machine. I would not go again to see it as it doesn't have the oh my gosh factor that say seeing the Statue of David has. Yes everyone should see it if they have the chance and preferably go on your own as the tours are a real rip. We went on a tour only to have the guide turn up 15min late so then we were given a hurried tour of the church etc. Not what we paid for
The hotel is nice and cozy, located close to Navigli area with bars and restaurants. It is also not far away from the main city attractions - the Last Supper museum is some 20min - and the Duomo around 30min by foot. The tram station is also just 2min away from the hotel, but we decided to enjoy the good weather and walk around.
The best place to stay in Milan when looking at Value for money. The rooms was great and the bed was huge. The Breakfast Buffet was amazing and the location is across the road from 'The Last Supper Painting'. Really couldn't ask for more. Will definitely be coming back here for future Milan visits.
Staff was very friendly. Very good, next to the Last Supper so it was easy to get tickets in the morning as we did not book in advance.
