So much to take in, and quite a bit to be honest that has been taken from other countries! You have to go to the Sistene Chapel of course, but its not that great. Other ceilings in Rome are just as impressive.
It’s free every last Sunday (9:00-14:00) of the month, but not included the Sistine Chapel. You can visit it first and then go to the St. Peter’s Basilica. it’s free as well, you only need to pay for the dome and it’s worth to do so. You can see the whole Vatican City there. However, if you gonna paid for the museum, you better change the schedule to the St. Peter’s Basilica and the dome first. It will be very crowded after 10:30am.
The Vatican Museums 10 years ago were doable. Today - you are one of many sardines trying to see the same item. If you want to see them get yourself a private guide (make arrangements before you arrive in Rome) and let him set the agenda as to what to see in the Museums and at what time of day.
Even with skip the line tour booked there was still delays getting into museum. It was over crowded, too many tours with audio equipment too close together to actually hear what was being said. The corridors became very samy, and repetitive. Unless you enjoy being pushed and shoved and stepped on for hours in stuffy conditions I would avoid this.
I took a tour that gets you into the Museum before opening, but then so did thousands of others so it's really not worth it. Best if you can somehow time your visit to not overlap with the most popular group tour times. The group tour leaders all carry flags or other pointers which will intrude into all your pictures!
try to visit early or late - and off-season if, possible. They let too many visitors into the Sistine Chapel, and the guards don't/can't maintain the policies (quiet and no flash photography) - it is not pleasant in the summer
Vaticano Prati, Rome
Breakfast, bedding and towels were replenished every single day. Every day we came home to the room looking exactly the first time we saw it. Flavia couldn't do enough for you and even answers a message to help when me and my husband ended up separated in a crowd unable to find each other again in early hour of the morning. It is located a 1 min walk to the Vatican museums we will most definitely be back with the children but for now, thank you for making our 15 year wedding anniversary so special for us.
Vaticano Prati, Rome
The location is perfect, 5 minutes walk and you are at St. Peter from where you can walk into the Old City or to the Vatican museums. The next metro station is like 10 minutes by foot. The rooms are comfy, practical and clean. Breakfast is free, but could use a bit more variety with jams (we had only apricot). A great thing is, that you can leave your luggage at the kitchen and explore the city on your last day without having to pay for storage.
Vaticano Prati, Rome
This was a perfect place for our visit to the Vatican Museums (literally across the road from the entrance). The room was immaculately clean, very stylish, comfortable, and quiet. The subway is just a couple of blocks away, and there are good bus connections into the historic center of Rome. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
The location was perfect for St Peter's Basilica and Vatican Museums. Rooftop terrace for aperitivo was fantastic. Food in house restaurant Les Etoiles was of a very good standard. Breakfast was adequate. Staff were extremely well trained, friendly and professional. Nothing but high praise. Reception were also very good.
Vaticano Prati, Rome
The house was very close to the Vatican Museums. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. The room is nice, though not for more than 2 people.
Vaticano Prati, Rome
the ubication,a very quiet place, the security, near of vatican city and vatican museums, subways and restaurants are very accesible from the hotel
Vaticano Prati, Rome
Clean, comfortable room really close to the Vatican Museums, good breakfast at cafe inlcluded. Would definitely recommend.
I didn't know the Sistine Chapel didn't allow photography. Frankly, the Hall of Maps at the Musei Vaticani was the most impressive aspect. The entire collection was amazing.
pre-book a tour around the Vatican museums (Sistine Chapel) and St.Peter's as it is well worth the extra money and avoids the massive queues.
If you like museums, pictures and sculptures. When visiting the Capitol and Vatican museums you'll need to give each place twice the time recommended in the guidebooks. There is so much to see every were.
The Art in the Vatican Museums is just stunning and so much of it. It is well worth the entrance fee but pre book tickets or you will queue for hours.
Definitely pre-book tickets we avoided hours of queueing at the Vatican museums and Colosseum.
You cannot avoid the crowd. The best suggestion to visit Vatican museums and St Peter's is to take a guided tour. To visit the Colosseum, book your tickets in advance over the internet and skip the line. Other attractions are easy to visit.
