You need to find the film room which describes the history of the place both ancient (1086 Norman Conquest) to modern ( the roles of the Scotsman ( who else?) who saved it in the 19th century and Wagner’s role in establishing it for what it is today. Most visitors wandered in , watched 5 minutes and wandered out so know absolutely diddley squat about all of this. But they'd see the stage and the gardens as will you. And that’s worth it too.
The breakfast was one of the worse in Europe - No coffee or water in the room - The superior room is a ripoff - The AC does not work well. Overall, the whole hotel is not worth a 4 stars (except the view) and is very overpriced.
If driving to the hotel, drive into the old town Ravello Square through the tunnel and park by the Klingsoor Bar and then call the hotel. They will send down a valet to help you park the car. Dont drive around aimlessly trying to figure out the sat nav for an hour like myself! :)
Loved Ravello. Would not stay at this property again. We had ants...lots of ants. They were in the beds, bathroom, and our suitcases. The owner claimed it was food in the room of which we had none but our room did have small kitchen area. I can't imagine what it would have been like if we tried to use that. He cam in and sprayed chemicals but we still had plenty of ants.
A couple hours touring this Villa is enough time to see all the grounds leisurely. You'll have plenty of time to walk around, take photos, and maybe sit on a bench enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Fascinating video in the grounds of the Villa includes history of Villa Rufolo, music and clips of people who have visited Ravello and attended concerts. Beautiful views from the grounds and the Villa make this well worth a visit
