It's a museum worth visiting. I signed up a guided tour in the museum and it's a fun tour although I had some difficulties understanding the guide. Got to see the mansion and the wooden furniture in old times. How smart the people finding way to make the place cozy and chilling without AC! And place a bowl a water at each leg of food cupboard to prevent ants, that's amazing! I would recommend the visit and the tour! Thanks to the owner making it public to let us have a chance to understand the culture of Peranakan! Love it!
This Mansion is used as a museum for incredible displays of antiques and collectables in the restored buildings. If you are interested in history and culture in this region, this is a must place to visit.
This is one cultural visit that you must not miss. The Nyonyas and Babas (Peranakans) are indigenous to Penang (one of the Straits Settlements along with Singapore and Malacca). This visit will take you back to the heyday of the Peranakan families, their lifestyles, the jewellery, clothing, cultural practices and taboos. Today, the Peranakan antiques are much valued as they are no longer in production namely ceramicware, clothing and jewellery.
Living history of a particular group of people who have adapted the customs of the land and mingle them with their original culture making it unique and also diminishing with changing times. A definite must see as there are no where else either in Malacca or Singapore that is so authentic.
It worth your money to know about this unique culture and race in Malaysia. The most complete Baba & Nyonya collections are here! And they have tour guide for every entry! Ask your tour guide any question about Baba & Nonya and stories of this family who lived in the mansion.
