Worth a visit to see the different architecture in the city which then leads onto the large shopping area and department store. We went November and everywhere was starting to display their windows and the streets ready for Christmas, lovely atmosphere.
Do.Not.Give.Money.TO THE PIGEON GUYS. Pigeons are filthy, the numbers of people we saw covered in pigeons asking their friends to take a picture is, yuck, feeling nauseous just typingg it. I rephrase it, you can give them money cause they obviously need it but for the love of god don't count "getting assaulted by pigeon" as a Dam square attraction.
Please do not go one the super market located opposite of central station they are racist. We are Indians one of the shop guy may be. From China or Korea told to us ‘look at yourself ‘ please do not go theree
The aweseome free tours leave from here. You'd be highly recommended to pre-book as we almost missed out.
take time and sit in the square and see the performers they all have one thing in common is the way all the people watching them are from all around the world different religions different views but all same common ground of being there and laughing and smiling together
A must for newcomers - if only to appreciate its' sheer scale in person! Truly epic proportions and a case of near visual overload, looking at all the grand buildings. Again, this is the tourist heart of the city, but from here all streets lead to somewhere intriguing!
The room is really comfortable and modern. It has enough space for two people. Location is near the centre. It is about 10 to 15 minutes to Dam Square. Breakfast was maybe a bit odd. There was no hot water for tea or at least we didn't find it. :) You can get eggs (fried, scrambled, with extra cheese), cornflakes, fresh fruit, fresh juice, yogurt... Overall it's really good. Staff is really professional. Prepared for any questions you might have. I would recommend this place if you want to visit Amsterdam.
I liked location. It is ten minutes away from hauptbahnof and you can walk red light street, dam square and much more places by walking. There are many restaurants around We also liked properties in the room. You can easily connect to tv via Bluetooth and watch netflix and so on. Also staff was friendly we extended our stat one more night without any problem. We were there with my boyfriend and our stay at highlinder hotel was very good Price and quality are best matching
Great location, nearby to Dam Square, L'Hermitage Museum and Amstel Channel. The hotel is very nice, with a extremely good restaurant. The rooms are like in in the pics, but the staff is the best thing. I had problems with the 1st bedroom and could see them working to please the client. Marteen and Taco, and the girls as well, were absolutely sympathetic and professionals. I higly recommend the bedrooms facing the garden side.
Hotel Mai Amsterdam is a walking distance to Centraal Station, Dam square and Red Light District. Staff is very kind and helpful. Decoration is nice, bed is comfy. We haven't tried breakfast so no idea about it. Before arriving to hotel I asked for early check-in. They didn't let me do it but instead they gave me a chance to leave my luggages at hotel safely. Thank you.
Staff was very nice, helpful and overall great. We arrived early in the morning and for our surprise, the room was ready. Location is amazing, can't get much better that being exactly on Dam square. The hotel has a small fitness center which was great, and everything was perfectly clean.
Very nice receptionists, room was nice and clean, though the water pressure in the shower was VERY weak and that's the main reason why I switched to another hotel later. The hotel is not super central but is walkable from Dam square and is quiet and nice. Close to the central station.
Breakfast excellent Freshly cooked and good variety Dining staff very accommodating Hotel spotlessly clean Deluxe double room very spacious Quiet hotel No sound at night Number 4 tram stop right outside hotel - goes to Dam Square and Central station every few minutes
A nice quiet hotel in a very central location. No more than a 15 minute walk to Dam square. Rooms were small but clean, perfect for a short trip. Would reccomend for anyone looking for good value for money for a short trip to Amsterdam
A very nice hotel, it is not in the main tourist area but there is plenty happening in the surrounding street. It is a 10 minute walk to Central Station and a similar time to Dam Square.
The hotel was very stylish and welcoming. The location was fantastic, just a few minutes walk from Dam square. The staff were lovely and we loved being able to bring our dog with us.
Visit The Nine Streets 'De Negen Straatjes' for unique boutiques with the odd Abercrombie shop. I love the shoes here, try United Nude-pop up shops scattered around right now. I love De Bijenkorf (The Beehive), the department store by Dam Square for its one step ahead, soon to come homewares trends.
The city really speaks to you! Look at the buildings leaning sideways on each other, the trains running through the city, Dam square... history is staring at your face everywhere you turn.
If you take a detour from the main shopping strip leading to Dam Square, there are a number of smaller shops for the more particular shopper. My favourite was what looked like a small musical instrument shop, but turned out to be huge. There was also a retro computer game shop that was a little expensive but had an amazing array of consoles and games.
Stay off the beaten track and away from places like Dam Square and the Red Light District. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants close to the canals. Look for where the local people go to eat and take recommendations from your hotel. Always worth checking out the restaurants in the Internet before you go and always try to book
Find Warmoestraat, near 22 (Hotel Old Quarter) and walk straight on towards Baba Coffeeshop, walk straight past and you get the Dam square. It's beautiful!
Red light district, shopping district near Dam square, Dam square its self, the Royal Palace, and of course the coffee shops!
