You can't go to Amsterdam and not go to the flower market. Beautiful flowers all year long and bulbs for traveling (make sure it says OK to take to US). Many coffee shops and take away foods. Don't forget to try the Gyros and frets with mayo. My favorite foods to walk around eating.
Poor compared to how it used to be twenty years ago. Good restaurants still there though. The canal houses of Amsterdam are still stunning. Excellent Dutch food can still be found if you look closely (vij fliegen, de koperen ketel, de gaper, het kebel etc), & of course the famous indonesian rijstaffel restaurants. Cheap & easy bus/tram/metro travel with gbb card. Dont even try to take a car into old amsterdam anymore! Enjoy
If you travel to Amsterdam, and like flowers, please go to this market! Before purchasing, walk through all of the vendors, they have different prices and you can find the same products being sold for less!
I love, love, love this place! I am not even a flower person but I certainly enjoyed walking through this street lined with flowers and seeds' vendors and their wares. I enjoyed looking at the many colourful blooms especially the tulips! They are a sight to behold! It is a walking distance from the Dam Square and plenty of trams ply this area. A bag of tulip bulbs (I think a dozen of bulbs) costs around EUR 10 and if you haggle, perhaps the vendor might even give you a discount. You can also buy souvenirs, dried flowers to use for potpourri or decoration, bulbs and seeds, garden decors here. Another must-see when in Amsterdam!
Lovely ! Though One of the shopkeeper told us get out of the way as some of us have to work ! We told him learn to respect that tourists come to your country . A lady at information at the station when asked which platform this train goes from , she gave the number and when asked which direction should I go to , she said there is only one direction. Let me say besides these two, Dutch are anazingly helpful
Don't buy tulip bulbs in the Spring unless you plan to put them in the refrigerator when you get home. Bulbs should be planted in the Fall only. If you buy them any other time, it is a waste of money.
We were relocated to the NH Collection Amsterdam Flower Market as the Caransa couldn't receive us for the dates we booked. We got upgraded and had a very nice welcoming by helpful staff. The Flower Market hotel is ideally located, peaceful and quiet and close to everything essential as city center, museums, canals, restaurants, ... Our dog was very welcome and not at all frowned upon, we liked the valet service although it's a little bit pricey...
Big brand Hotel, with very good and cozy facilities. Clean and tidy rooms, modern layout and design of the rooms, gym and lobby. As usual in big hotels, the staff was very helpful and friendly and took care of any request easily. The location is right in the centre of the historic part of the town (Flower Market, Grachtenviertel) and so a bit touristic.
