You can't go to Amsterdam and not go to the flower market. Beautiful flowers all year long and bulbs for traveling (make sure it says OK to take to US). Many coffee shops and take away foods. Don't forget to try the Gyros and frets with mayo. My favorite foods to walk around eating.
Poor compared to how it used to be twenty years ago. Good restaurants still there though. The canal houses of Amsterdam are still stunning. Excellent Dutch food can still be found if you look closely (vij fliegen, de koperen ketel, de gaper, het kebel etc), & of course the famous indonesian rijstaffel restaurants. Cheap & easy bus/tram/metro travel with gbb card. Dont even try to take a car into old amsterdam anymore! Enjoy
If you travel to Amsterdam, and like flowers, please go to this market! Before purchasing, walk through all of the vendors, they have different prices and you can find the same products being sold for less!
I love, love, love this place! I am not even a flower person but I certainly enjoyed walking through this street lined with flowers and seeds' vendors and their wares. I enjoyed looking at the many colourful blooms especially the tulips! They are a sight to behold! It is a walking distance from the Dam Square and plenty of trams ply this area. A bag of tulip bulbs (I think a dozen of bulbs) costs around EUR 10 and if you haggle, perhaps the vendor might even give you a discount. You can also buy souvenirs, dried flowers to use for potpourri or decoration, bulbs and seeds, garden decors here. Another must-see when in Amsterdam!
Lovely ! Though One of the shopkeeper told us get out of the way as some of us have to work ! We told him learn to respect that tourists come to your country . A lady at information at the station when asked which platform this train goes from , she gave the number and when asked which direction should I go to , she said there is only one direction. Let me say besides these two, Dutch are anazingly helpful
Don't buy tulip bulbs in the Spring unless you plan to put them in the refrigerator when you get home. Bulbs should be planted in the Fall only. If you buy them any other time, it is a waste of money.
The location is perfect and hotel lobby is very trendy looking and hotel corridors are really cool, especially the carpet and hotel room itself just superb. Very clean and tidy and had a room with the nice view to flower market and bridge next door. Unfortunately we could not have breakfast as our programme started earlier then hotel breakfast, which started only at 8 AM, which was surprising as most of the guest were i think business guests.
Excellent location - Rijksmuseum & Van Gogh Museum only 10 minutes on foot, Albert Cuypstraat market and Heineken brewery within 5. Tram and metro stops to railway stations and other sights (royal palace, flower market) nearby, also grocery stores and a wide selection of restaurants. Although its window goes to the inner stairway, the room had enough natural light and was well ventilated. Bathroom is clean and cozy. Friendly staff.
We know Amsterdam like the back of our hand so picking up the key from a restaurant/bar near the flower market and then walking to the apartment was not an issue, yet for tourists not so well versed in travel realities it could be an issue. Great location, good bed, modern bright bathroom, and very functional big shared kitchen in the hallway.
Perfect location. Cozy apartment right in Flower Market. You have to be prepared CLIMB a canal house stair! you can take it as an experience! Very nice place to have breakfast or a beer in the evening and enjoy the view on the windows. Host were very kind and gave us very good advises about Amsterdam.
