Very interesting to tour. Many have a recorded tour, allowing you to self-lead your way through the houses while learning about the families, architecture and history. All houses in the historic society have parking, and you are able to purchase a ticket that works at all the houses.
Buy an annual membership and see as many properties as you want for one household fee! It ends up being cheaper if you want to see more than 5. And as members you get discounts on special tours and other perks too!
Preservation Society Membership is worth it if you are there more that 1 day. They also offer student and military discounts They have a museum reciprocal program across North America so you get free admission to other museums.
Nice selection...one empty of furniture and a lesson in restoration, one for exquisite and period furniture, one as it was when the owner moved our a few decades ago and some just humongous and deliciously over the top in decor and design. I felt like I was in Italy in two of the mansions. Some had lovely grounds and all had such beautiful trees...really loved the weeping beech trees and the breezes other trees created.
It is cheaper to get a pass for five different mansions. They tickets do not expire so you can come back the next day and visit a few more mansions or come back in a year. It has to be five different mansions (listed on the ticket) you cannot do the same one twice with that specific ticket.
Purchase the 5 mansion package and if it is your first visit, take the 1 1/2 hour trolley tour. Do not purchase any of this on line prior to your visit. Do it all at the visitor center when you arrive.
We felt very welcome and had a nice and comfortable room. Oceandrive/Newport Mansions and Colonial Newport are not far away. I really liked that there were tea and coffee and some good cookies/cakes available in the breakfast room all day. We would come back.
Nice room in Carriage House. Good breakfast included (continental). Easy walking distance to town with restaurants and shopping close by. Parking provided (free). Easy drive to see the Newport Mansions (well worth visiting).
A lovely guest house in a great location down the road from the Newport Mansions and a short walk to the harbour area.
