It feels very run down and really scruffy. It’s not the best part of the city and there are so many vagrants which can feel very intimidating when they shout at you, I know it’s not their fault but it does become scary especially at night time.
Nice place to stay. There are quite a nos of hotel in this area. Easily accessible to plently of eatery, shopping centre, shops, supermarket, even the famous cable car ride are around the corner. There are subway, muni buses , transport all around this area and it make it easier for you to move about.
Interesting, lots going on as christmas tree was going up and skating rink being put together. Spoilt by constant noise of strike going on outside Westin St Francis and Marriots hotel. Whistles blowing, chanting and drums banging. Just glad i didn't stay in those hotels. Just give the strikers a fair deal ! You make enough money out of us tourists.
Catch a double decker bus tour here. Sit on upper deck if not raining. The tour takes you round the city and gives you an overall perspective of it. When you're walking round later the bus tour gives you an idea of where you're at.
Nothing special, spent a fortune on a hotel here, not worth the money to be honest over £1000 for 4 nights, was not worth more than £200, the pictures look fantastic but when you get there the pics are from when it was first fitted, it’s a con, and needed a refit desperately. Stay somewhere else and not here.
It's a good place to get your bearings if you're staying close by. The square is surrounded by expensive shops. There's a booking office and your bus pickup point. A few homeless people, not much else.
Great central location, 3min from Union Square. My room was very clean and well equipped with all common things like TV phone, tourist information brochures, hair dryer etc. Absolutely fantastic super friendly staff! That was a big surprise for me as I stayed few nights in Hilton hotel just around the corner and staff over there was not even half friendly as here. Will definitely stay in this hotel again. Oh, one more thing! My room was ready 3h before my scheduled arrival! No extra charge! BIG BIG THANKS FOR THAT! :)
I very liked my days in this hostel. The room was quite big to be an hostel and everything was perfectly clean. There was a bathroom in the room, so basically if you go in 4 people you can easily consider this as an hotel and not as an hostel. The position is also perfect. Walking distance from union square.
San Francisco is an expensive place, but the price for the Grant Hotel was reasonable, especially considering the location a short walk away from the SF MOMA and from Union Square. The building itself is a bit old, but it's well maintained and very clean. Very impressed with the pastries at breakfast.
Location is amazing, right at the edge of union square. It's a small boutique style hotel, basic amenities but I was there for the location more than anything. Check-in very easy, and felt secure with the fob for the front door after hours. Leaflet with the details was great idea also !
Location is great, short walk away Chinatown and Union Square. Pub on the ground floor. 24hr valet parking is available - location is a couple of blocks away but the car is collected from the hotel and brought back to you. Secure location. Mini bar provided in room.
The hotel is next to the Union Square, close to public transport, restaurants and shops. There's quite a few homeless people around, but they were not aggressive nor did they ask for money. Still, my wife would not walk there alone in the evening.
The breakfast was amazing. They go all out. The staff was also very nice and accommodating. You get a drink on booking and the hotel was really nice. It was old but it had a nice feel to it and was very close to shops and union square.
old hotel _ they all are around union square. The room was comfortable and bed was great.
There are fun boutiques in every district. Do the main shopping areas such as union square for brand names but venture around the city to find the fun boutiques and little restaurants that really make your stay memorable
Venture outside the most touristy areas like Pier 39 and Union Square - go to Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow, the Marina. It's much less crowded and you can even forget you're in the city
Yes, outside of Union Square the city prides itself on supporting small, local businesses so you can find plenty of shops that are cute and independently owned.
Prebook trips such as Alcatraz. Avoid using the cable car in the morning from Union Square or the afternoon from Fisherman's Wharf. Very long queues.
Union Square always has something happening that is fun to watch
