Lovely village with coastal walk right on the doorstep of the local inn. You can walk for miles along the seafront into Morecambe and beyond. Heysham is a great base for visiting many tourist areas in Lancashire and also the Lake District.
The castle tour is well worth it, especially as they are opening new bits of it as they are being restored. The fantastic tour guide, who has more than a passing resemblance to Prince Harry, brought the tour to life, we really enjoyed it. Parking is relatively easy, and not too pricey either. The Priory just behind the castle is well worth a visit too, especially if they have a concert on as the acoustics are amazing! We also went to the museum, very easy to find, free, and has a lovely military museum tucked away inside it. A must for anyone who had family in the Kings Own Royal Lancashire's like me. What we saw of Lancaster was good, and we loved the three way bridge over the river too. Parts of the town are a little run down , but not too bad, unlike the shock i had visiting Morecambe Bay, very run down, very sad to see that the council haven't put some money into restoring it, as it is a pretty little town with the most fantastic toy shop and children's special occasion clothes shop right next door to each other. The Stone Pier is worth a wander along as is the statue of Eric Morecambe to see too. Other than that and the odd second hand shop, there is not a lot more to see. It does however have the most amazing toilet block that was cheap, clean, and like a tardis inside, it looks tiny from the outside, but believe me, it isn't! To be fair, we didn't explore all of the town, but we were advised not to go to one end as it was a no go area, and that came from a local! Just a shame that the museum was shut - as a lot of things are on a monday in Lancashire - that would have been nice to see. This was only a 2 day break, maybe a little longer might have brought hidden treasures to light.
Smart market town with some very good shops of all types, My husband was over the moon at the quantity and quality of the beer with so many different types on offer and a micro brewery, Food was not a problem as the cafes and restaurants all good to excellent. The other bonus is the East Lancashire Steam Railway which is rich in history and museum a Bury also more beer in the station tavern !!!
Preston is a great City which clearly does not get enough publicity. See our comments on places to visit. Harris Art Gallery and Museum University of Central Lancashire Arts/St Peters The Iconic Bus Station The Lancashire Museum and its Comedy Section Wrinkly Square and Avenham Park Preston North End FC and Moor Park Th Docks and former Port of Preston If you visit by car look at The Railway Station The Minster/Parish Church The Indian Roman Catholic Cathedral. All the nearby countryside Lancaster Canal in Haslam Park The Open and Closed Markets The Guild Hall Theatre Complex Possible tours of the Assizes Clubs and pubs and hidden cafes River Ribble Walks
Lancaster has much to offer. It has an amazing garden overlooking to sea. There are museums and galleries. The castle is a must as it is full of history, especially the Lancashire Witches. It is a good centre for the Lakes, the Dales, he Trough of Bowl and and the Fylde Coast. We get there often.
A friendly, warm reception from all I met in this historic Lancashire Pennine town. Lots of independent shops and market traders to suite most tastes. I look forward to returning in the future.
It was a stop over on an otherwise beautiful scenic journey through Cumbria and down into Lancashire . So we did not see a great deal of Barnsoldwick.
It's a lovely quiet part of Lancashire. Very pretty on a summer evening or very early in the morning. The restaurant at The Mill served up a very good evening meal with good choice of wines. The marina and locks at Glasson Docks nearby are interesting with a couple of pubs and a cafe. We didn't visit the other pub nearby called The Stork but it looked nice from outside.
Lytham st Anne's is a great all rounder for all ages, we only discovered this little gem 11 years ago,we would recommend a day out, a weekend or even a weeks stay, there s so much to discover ....I commend Lancashire council for the towns cleanliness..... Well done....

Cockerham
A real treat - the apartment was top-notch, it had everything we might have wanted and such a beautiful location. We were stunned at how lovely it all way - lots of space and high quality. The whole Hall and grounds were wonderful, we wished we could have stayed for a month! (We didn't use any of the hotel's facilities but they looked super). Only about 10 minutes from the M6 and Lancaster and easy to explore the lovely (untouristy) Lancashire countryside. I'd love to go back today!
Carnforth
Our apartment was spotlessly clean, spacious and extremely well equipped, with a dishwasher a washing machine and even Wi-Fi throughout. There were towels, toiletries and even dishwasher tablets provided. We enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it as an excellent base for seeing Lancashire and the Lake District. The surrounding canal walk was beautiful, as were the very friendly (and greedy) local swans and ducks.
We enjoyed a excellent 2 night stay at the hotel The staff were great considering the testing times due to the new restrictions in Lancashire Very helpful and polite and couldn’t do enough for us Food and location was excellent and we’ll definitely be using the Headlands again
Great Eccleston
I am sorry to say that I will be unlikely to avail myself of this excellent hotel as I am very unlikely to go to Lancashire any time soon . This is a shame as this is a great little hotel with really good staff and great food ( we had an evening meal) which was top quality
Really well finished. Top class bed, bedroom, amenities. Excellent bathroom with great shower. Quiet and a good night’s sleep. Highly recommended and a first class addition to the hotel offer in this part of Lancashire. Will stay again.
Everything about this place is amazing the team are friendly and can't do enough for you food is excellent and the hotel grounds and views are amongst the best in Lancashire
