London's inherent uniqueness and mix of cultures have made it one of the most visited cities in the world. Its diverse bundle of boroughs are often like mini cities in their own right, with each one offering something different to the last.
London's iconic skyline is an eclectic combination of instantly recognisable landmarks, from the historic Tower of London to the ultra-modern skyscrapers of The Shard and 20 Fenchurch (better known as 'The Walkie-Talkie'). A walk through the ‘Square Mile’ immerses you in the original Roman settlement, with parts of the ancient defensive wall still visible. You'll also find some of the London's cosiest (and oldest) pubs around there, such as Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, a former haunt of Charles Dickens and Mark Twain.
For lovers of the arts, look no further than the world-class theatres of London's West End and the live music venues of Camden, Soho and Shoreditch. You'll also find endless galleries and museums dotted around, such as the free-to-visit British Museum, Natural History Museum and the National Gallery.
Amongst all the impressive architecture and endless points of interest, it's easy to forget how green London is. 47% of the city is made up of public green space, including 3,000 parks. The most popular spots include Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and Green Park, but it's worth venturing out to places like Richmond where you can walk amongst roaming wild deer.
London is served by several major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, City, Stansted, Luton and Southend. Travel is made easy by the extensive public transport links, as well as private coach services.

Stayed 2 nights at the Ashburn Hotel, Cromwell Road, perfect location for lots of cafes, restaurants and shops. Ate one night at Pizza Express, excellent, and the second night at Launceston Place, top notch restaurant with a price to match, again excellent. See separate reviews. Ashburn Hotel less than five minutes walk to Gloucester Road, Piccadilly line from King's Cross and also two stops from Sloane Square, good location for Chelsea Flower Show. Also took a trip down Oxford Street, Selfridges and John Lewis and spent an afternoon at Chelsea Physic Garden.
London is for people who like big cities.
28 May 2022
London is for people who like big cities. And don't mind seeing concrete all day all around them. From old to new. It's also for people who like history and museums of all kinds. It's a progressive city that has more recycle bins than trash bins, and You'll never have to buy a new piece of clothing ever again (accept for maybe underwear), with many of the second-hand stalls and shops. London has a great underground system and public transportation. There are markets EVERYWHERE, some on one street, and some you can't see the end of, with goods you'll never find anywhere else, and delicious fresh food. There is always something to do, see, eat, or a good place to relax. And if you feel sick of the concrete- just go to one of the great parks they have to forget you're in a city for a little while.

For most travelers my recommendation is to find a place near an Underground Station. As this is around my 20th visit, I can state that it's not as important which area you stay in as the fun is in visiting as many boroughs around London that you can. Great restaurants, pubs, historical locations, etc., are not confined to any one borough as there is an endless number of wonders to explore. Also, load up on an Oyster Card and don't worry about having a balance on it when you leave as you will most certainly return.

We did so much in such a small amount of time. Lion King theatre, buckingham palace, London eye, walk to Piccadilly the lego shop a must for my son and we were the until late at night open late. Good restaurants around. For family but advise booking in advance which we did. We walked around the park, saw Big Ben and Trafalgar Square on door step. Everything so close. We arrived by train in to paddington and caught metro. The children loved it all ages 4,9,10 and 14.
