About Milan

Including tips for the best time to visit Milan

Despite having centuries worth of history, Milan prides itself on being Italy's most contemporary city and fashion capital. Its ancient Duomo is just one of many churches dotted around the city, and you'll also find a variety of museums, world-class theatres and established opera houses such as La Scala.

To discover the city's history, head to the red brick Castello Sforzesco, where the prominent Sforza-Visconti families of Milan once resided. Today, you'll find several museums inside, one of which features the Rondanini Pietà – Michaelangelo's final work. Continue your exploration onto the street of Corso Magenta where you'll find many trendy cafés and impressive examples of Milanese architecture like the Palazzo Litta. But the highlight lies within Santa Maria delle Grazie church and convent, which houses Leonardo da Vinci’s stunning mural, 'The Last Supper'.

To combine the best of shopping with striking architecture, then look no further than Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Set inside a glass-domed, 19th-century palace, this mammoth shopping mall features an intricate mosaic floor lined with designer brands like Louis Vuitton and Prada.

Milan's main international airport is Malpensa, with transfers available by express train, bus and taxi.

There is a lot to do in Milan though I have to say the city is very expensive though various trips are possible - we visited Lake Como which was just a 40-minute train ride from Milan Central. One hour boat trip around the lake cost just 5 Euros.

7 September 2020

As I travelled alone, I don't suggest any female (especially from Eastern Europe, Scandinavia) to go alone. Local male were extremely rude. I had to run to escape someone who was following me causing strained muscle. I am definitely not coming back anytime soon. Also Milan is overhyped - it is absolutely not worth the prices.

6 September 2020

A lively city with lots of attractions. Went as a couple with two young adults 20 and 25 years old. There was plenty to do for everyone. We all wished we could have stayed longer. Stayed in a hotel in Navigli which is a busy area at night with lots of bars and restaurants opening later on. Quite peaceful during the day.

Milan is fantastic but I spent 2 days in emergence because the bed bugs attacked me on the hostel. It was a bad experience. Ill never more use the Family Hostel Milano, Viale Andrea Doria 44 I REALY DO NOT RECOMMEND. 6 nights at the hotel, 2 days at the hospital, in MILAN more une day at the emergency in London. I am still recovering, full of marks and the hotel doesn't want to refund me.

Mixed feelings.

30 August 2020

Mixed feelings. It's beautiful and has a lot of history and amazing architecture, great places to visit/eat/do the shopping. Unfortunately a lot of that is spoiled by dirty streets, graffiti and immigrants, so you don't feel very safe. To feel a true Italy I recommend to go outside of this city, nowadays it's much more true to the beautiful Italian nature.

Ho scoperto il quartiere Città Studi.

27 August 2020

Ho scoperto il quartiere Città Studi. Inaspettatamente ho trovato molto verde.
