About Warsaw

Including tips for the best time to visit Warsaw

The story of Warsaw’s past is told though its architecture, from restored Gothic buildings to steel-and-glass high-rise buidlings. Take the Royal Castle, a stately building that served as a royal residence for around 300 years before being completely destroyed in WW2 – or the Palace of Culture and Science, a giant structure dating back to Poland’s Soviet-influenced era. Still Poland’s tallest building today, the latter contains theatres, bars, museums and a viewing terrace on its 30th floor.

This complex story further unfolds in museums across the city. The Warsaw Rising Museum, for instance, traces the history of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 via interactive displays, photographs and film archives.

However, Warsaw is every bit the modern European capital, with gorgeous green spaces like Lazienki Park, and a mix of high-calibre Polish and fusion restaurants, cosy bars and galleries in its beautifully restored old town. Take a guided tour of Old Praga to discover its hidden gems – and when night falls, take a wander around or head out to Mazowiecka Street to experience the best of Warsaw’s nightlife and entertainment.

Warsaw is definitely worth visiting.

6 December 2021

Warsaw is definitely worth visiting. It is an influential city with its history. Everyday several museums are free. I visited almost all of the museums for free. Especially Polin Museum should be visited. Food and cafes are also nice. I would recommend lentil pierogi of Zapiecek and delicious coffes of Pozegnanie z Afrzka (Freta 4/6). They offer many different types of coffee with a cozy ambience. Everyday there is a Chopin concert behind the Royal Castle. I would definitely recommend. City was safe to travel alone

Amazing city, amazing trip. I went with my parents who had never been in Europe and they absolutely loved it. The nights are very good. Met the nicest people in pubs and the pints have a very affordable price. I will defo be back for more!

Warsaw is architecturally very interesting as it rose from the ashes like Phoenix after WWII. It abounds in monuments, statues, and churches and Catholicism is omnipresent. Polish food is great and you will especially appreciate it in winter times. Although Warsaw isn't as picturesque as Krakow and doesn't lure tourists with sea possibilities as Gdańsk, it is certainly worth visiting.

You have to visit the old town center.

1 November 2021

You have to visit the old town center. It has a unique energy and I found it better then Prague. The architecture is amazing and honest. Nothing artificial and super preserved like in some historic towns in Germany. My wife called the old town of Warsaw beautiful without botox.
