About New York

Including tips for the best time to visit New York

New York City is somewhere that feels familiar before you even visit. Countless films and TV shows are shot here, so when we see the trademark yellow taxi cabs, the hot dog vendors or the dazzling lights of Manhattan, there's a strange sense of déjà vu. It's also home to what is arguably the world's most famous skyline, dominated by the Art Deco marvel of the Empire State Building. Constantly reinventing and setting new trends in fashion, food and art, the city is also a major hub for finance and trade, with the famous Wall Street at its core.

The city is split into the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island, and each has its own unique character. Manhattan Island is home to the trendy neighbourhoods of Greenwich Village and SoHo, while Brooklyn features a Botanic Garden, the New York Aquarium and the famous Coney Island. A ferry from Battery Park to Ellis Island offers a great opportunity for some incredible views of the city, before reaching the fascinating Immigration Museum. You'll also sail past the iconic Statue of Liberty, with plenty of time to snap photos from all angles.

The city's Broadway shows are second to none, with a variety of major musicals proving the pick of the bunch. The giant green oasis of Central Park offers a perfect spot for a peaceful stroll, as well as featuring lakes, theatres and ice-skating rinks.

New York is served by three major airports: JFK, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia, with public transport options available at each one.

Always worth a visit but remember, like all big cities Newyork will always have a certain amount of street crime . See the sights ( well worth seeing ) but remember personal safety. The Edge at Hudson Yards , The One Vanderbilt , The One world observatory are must-dos IMO.

Let me sum ot up USD 381 a night But no cleaning or service of room over 5 D 4 N I was there, despite request. Phone, coffee machine, card keys not work. No water provided. Something as basic as airport taxi help didn't exist w front desk. Breakfast often a line or scrummage, dirty & crowdedwithout tables even wiped. T ourist industry here relies too mich on iconic buildings, museums and the like from days gone by. Prices are high, service in hotels slack and they don't much like tourists. Peak hours like weekends you cant use subway cos it wont take notes for eg. Show me another world ctr city where that occurs. Requests for help often ignored. It's a good thing I lived here before as no help w problems I met some v helpful, interestimg or polite people but they were few. Taxi drivers v good as are restaurants and impressive tourist attractions like Freedom Twr. But meh! time to visit other big cities

Boqueria West, great Spanish restaurant, tapas

Boqueria West, great Spanish restaurant, tapas Elgin - great pub food & atmosphere with Hamilton history La Boite en Bois - fabulous French Easy walk in midtown from the Bryant Park Hotel - great location! Loved hanging out in Bryant Park, great people watching spot! Went to a B'way show (Hamilton - incredible!) & convenient walk from the Bryant Park Hotel Walking in the TImes Square area isn't great but navigating quickly w/o looking around much is wise. NYC is awesome, but always using caution and mask wearing advised!

We had the right location to be able to walk, max around 25 to 30 minutes, to any location we looked forward to experiencing. This included Broadway shows, Times Square, 5th Ave shopping, access to tour buses (on-top) and many other entertainment and sight-seeing locations. In four days, we did almost all that we wanted to do. We choose to Uber most to several of our places but realizing the cost could be prohibitive, our location choice gave us the walk option to help lower costs. Look at reviews of restaurants before you go and mapping out where they are relative to your stay will help save considerable time to put towards other events.

Not sure what I can say about New York City.

24 May 2022

Not sure what I can say about New York City... We visit frequently, this time for a theater and dining weekend. The shows were excellent (Wicked and Rise NY) and the dining was awesome (Wolfgang's).

Great restaurants, great night life (depends on the area you stay), big city so you'll have to be in shape or take the public transportation or being rich and go with Uber/taxi, very expansive, great parks and museums (you can spent at least half a day in every museum and park - metropolitan and the City public library in brayent park ), very easy to travel and navigate Go to summit one Vanderbilt - new exciting view point There is everything - search online or ask people on stores and in restaurants for what you seek and have a great city adventure
